Hello,

Recently i have been working on my 1971 1.4 mini when i came across two NGK spark plugs where the ceramic insulator has failed. I have never had this happern b4, i have only heard of it when people use the cheaper spark plug sockets and extension bars to remove them and slip.

I was wondering if it may b to do with the 11.5:1 compression ratio??

These are the NGK BP6E plugs although i realise that with the hight the compression the higher the heat rating on the spark plugs need to be. As this is a weekend car i wouldn't have thought this would matter.

Can anybody help?

in my opinion these just look like a faulty pear. the high compression wont matter too much. not much else on the plug seems to have melted.

how long have the plugs been in?

Nothing to do with compression

It looks like they have been broken in the plug socket or they have been knocked. I have done it myself before now even with the correct socket!!
