You need to get a spanner on the lower nut too, to stop the bolt from turning. it's a damned fiddly job though, but with some patience you'll get it off. Just watch that you don't drop the nut and washer etc.

You can fit a ring spanner on it, you are talking about the place where the earth strap connects to arent you ?

If this hasnt been done for a while, you may find the bolt has rusted into the metal tube that 'should' be inside the rubber steady bush. If this has happened then you will need to drill/cut the top of the bolt off so you can withdraw it and replace. You can try and bash it out from underneath but you will just end up bending the brackets on the bulkhead as its a *Female doggy* to get at.

The bolt is the same part no. as the one that goes into the block on that steady.

Now I understand, your referring to the ultimate engine steady thats attached to your thermostat!

Right easy peasy, you just need to get an assistant to hold a ring spanner securing the nuts which are within reach, up and underneath the passenger side dash/bulkhead area of the inside of the car, whilst you undo it on the engine side of the bulkhead as in the picture. :D

Yes and that's where I got at mine when I fitted an ultimate engine steady to my 90' Mainstream Cooper and that has a 1275GT style dash.

The bolts are not under the actual parcel shelf, their was back under the bulkhead crossmember, so just stick your hand under, reach right back and route around.

I got my nephew to hold the nuts with a ring spanner, so their not difficult to find or hold in place.

They secure were the left hand pedal controls would be in a wrong side drive car.

...total pain in the arse to do with no assistant tho.

edit

might be under a flap of carpet unless you fitted new flashy carpet in which case it might have to come out.

Yep found them :w00t:
They were underneath the carpet. what a fiddley job. i can get a ring spanner on 2 of nuts.
but the 3rd one is a no go to get a ring spanner onto. ill have to wait till my Girlfriend gets home, so ill have to use my strong fingers to hold the nut while she undoes the bolts from inside the bolk head..
Wish me luck :D
Thanks once again for your help lads :proud:

Have you tried getting a socket on an extension bar on to the one you can't get a ring spanner near? Well it's worth a try?
