evening all....just gonna have a nother go at sorting my electrical gremlins out...any suggestions would be appreciated

i have an engine that turns over
a horn that works
indicators that work on the drivers side.
but flash once on the other side and stay on. i have a new relay fitted.
i have windscreen wipers that work.

i don't have:

instrument dash lights apart from indicator lights, tho the drivers side does come on really dim in sympathy with the passenger side
i have no heater.
no oil pressure or battery indicator lights. the orange and red ones
no side lights front or back. though i have put a circuit tester on and there appears to be a complete circuit here, but no power

the loom has been re-taped and had new bullet connectors fitted.
all connections have been cleaned up
it is an early 2 fuse fuse box
all wires to and from the fuse box are connected as described in "Pains" manual.
all earths have been checked
on the ignition connection there is a green and yellow wire that has nothing to connect to, so i have a red and white wire, two whites and a brown, and a spare blade connection with no wire from the wiring loom.

any ideas would be muchly appreciated
ta

think thats it

all you can do is get the wiring diagram out of the Haynes manual and a voltage tester and follow the power from the battery out to see where it stops

your a bit far away for me to look

ELECTRICS BAAAAA!!!

They have a mind of their own...

I changed the clutch hose to braided this weekend, I had to move the water bottle to do it.

This morning the washers didn't work. So, opened bonnet, checked wiring, all in place, closed bonnet, got back in car and they worked!!

WHAA!!

It's been a long day!!!!

It's 1971, 1275gt, smiths 3 clock.
heater now working.

had a good look at the circuit board on the back of the clocks and this appears to be shot, as there are breaks in the printed circuits.
tried another set of clocks and everything apart from the panel lights, which leads me to conclude that:
since i have no sidelights, then i won't have any panel lights, if i get the side lights working then....in theory i should get power to the the panel lights.

the problem being i need a new circuit board. i have looked at swapping my circuit boards over, but as the other clock set are the newer japanese set, the circuit boards differ, not by much tho. it's just around the rev counter that they differ, so unless anyone has a printed circuit board for an early smith 3 clock offset instrument panel, they can sell me then i need to learn to solder

You'll need a pre '76 PCB really as the wiring for the tacho system is entirely different. You're fairly lucky to have an ignition system at all in a pre '76 1275GT if the PCB is shot. The tacho runs the ignition system and because of that it may be unwise to use a modified later PCB. I believe these are acutally the most readily available PCBs, the late Nippon Seiki ones are really hard to find as they weren't really available as a service part.

I've heard of people soldering or stapeling their printed circuits rather than replacing them. Due to having difficulty getting hold of replacements.

got sidelights sorted, so thanks for all your help and advice.....just need a printed circuit....if any one can help here, or know of a supplier that would be much appreciated. have also got the fog lights wired in....these have covers with small holes and lenses in them which look quite cool.

going back to the printed circuit, here is a pic....the one i am after is the one on the left.

Don't use the fogs with the covers on them, the windows are there so you can make sure they aren't lilt while the covers are on. The covers are not heat or flame proof.

It might be worth trying Cearbont Automotive Instruments for the PCB, that's what Smiths are called now. They might just know of some hidden away somewhere.

Or even Speedy Cables perhaps?

Speedy Cables Link

Which by the looks of it is right by Caerbont Automotive Instruments Ltd! So are they related now in any way?

Well they have Caerbont as one of their Links anyway!

I think that Speedy was bought by CAI after the CAI management buyout that secured the company. Might be wrong though.
