Rubber glove (cut fingers off to put leads through and cable tie)

didn't realy want to buy one, one of my mates suggested bubble wrap but i'd just end up pulling it off and sitting at the side of the road popping it

If you get a chance, you could try a scrappy if there's one nearby. The best way is to get one of the original spray guards if you can find one - use that and the marigold and you should be fine...

Or check on E-Bay because you can usually get the splash guard in different fancy colours. Or perspex if you still want the front of your engine to be visible, but protected.

Of course clean and renewed when required electrics are a good way of preventing running problems in the wet and avoiding the use of WD40 also helps too.

Yes and that's because your Mini has become dependant on it now. Because once you coat the HT Leads and Dizzy Cap in the stuff it sits there and attracts dust, dirt and grime etc thats blowing through your grille.

Then your Minis electrics start to break down or arc I believe? So you have to spray more WD40 the next time it rains to help provide a good connection and prevent arcing.

If your electrics were clean instead and protected by a weather shield, then you wouldn't need to bother with WD40 in most cases.

In fact i've heard from one Mini owner who runs his Mini with no grille, nor a weather shield and has no problems driving behind lorries on the motorway in heavy rain, simply because he's ensured his electrics are clean. I forget what brand of HT Leads he uses, but their nothing special, just Champion or something similar.

My mini has the bottom of a plastic coke bottle over the dizzy.
