i was having fun driving my mini on a nice sunny day until we became unable to breathe! there is a horrible smell in the car whilst driving an we are unsure what it is! it could be one of 3 things
- Castorol petrol aditive i spilt (but it was months and months ago)
- exhaust fumes (Toby just fixed the blowing exhaust)
-Petrol
Anyone got any ideas what to check for?
Thank you

It doesn't smell quite like petrol though. As it's that kind of smell though at least you're spared checking the entire car for small dead animals though!

Ensure its tightly connected, otherwise your interior will stink of petrol.
One way to check for exhaust leaks is to stick a rag over the tail pipe whilst the engines running/idling. Then look for smoke pouring out from any joints. Lift the bonnet first so you can see if it's leaking from the manifold or downpipe too.
If there's no leakage and the engine sounds like it's about to die, then you probably don't have any leaks.

One thing to check is that the vent pipe is still attached to your fuel tank. It's the rubber pipe attached (or should be attached) to a union pipe on the top of your petrol tank. Just run your hand over the top of the tank and you'll be able to feel it (or see it too if you contort yourself a bit).

Does it smell like rottem eggs????
If so it could be your battery getting to hot. Have alook to see if it needs topping up with battery water. I have had this on my mini and it smelt like $81*!!!
Good luck with this
