I have two spade connectors in the engine bay that aren't plugged in to anything.

There are these...

And they come off a loom here...

Its the black wire I have going up over the wing in the photo.

I have no idea what they should be connected to, help!

FWIW I have a non-working rev counter atm, but didn't have time tonight to do a continuity check on these, and the ones plugged in the rev counter.

The first pic shows your brake fluid resevoire cap isn't connected to anything (see the bare metal spade.) This should have a wire each side connected to it.

could be the answer...

does your brake fluid resevoire cap have two spade connectors on?

Only one that I could see!You can see it (just) as the shiny bit above the two connectors in the top photo.

I assume another should be on the opposite side??

You can buy replacement caps.

Do your wipers park themselves? If they don't then replacing the wiper motor park-switch will sort that and probably get your tachometer working again.

I and many others have found that the park-switch creates a short circuit when it fails and can cause fuses to blow and gauges to misread if not replaced.

Moving slightly off topic (ye gods!) I've replaced the park switch and the wipers now park. However, no tachometer. I haven't had a chance to check if I'm getting 12v to it yet, but all fuses I could find (four in fuse box, three in line behind the air filter housing, and one beside steering coloumn) tested ok on my multmeter.

But that doesn't prove their all working and here's a list of all the fuses & in-line fuses:-

Mini Fuse Link

Make sure the 4 fuse box is working properly on each terminal, apart from that check that the coil connections are tight and then after that there's only the rear of the clocks themselves. And there's only 2 connectors on the rear of the rev counter?
