i bought a new slave from mini spares and when i got home and opened it i noticed it does not have a "C" clip in the opening just under the boot like my old one did. when i called mini spares they said don't worry about it that some do and some don't. i don't know if i really want to trust that or not. looks to me like the clip keeps the ram from coming all the way out once engaged.

No, the clutch throwout stop prevents the cylinder piston coming all the way out when it is in operation! I don't think there's a circlip in mine.
