The 3/4" (ish) square tube brace bars won't add all that much strength to the car's front. Some, but not loads. The strong ones are the competition grade ones made of roll cage tube which need all sorts of bracing inside the bulkhead crossmember to fit, and transfer any frontal impact straight into a multi point weld in cage (if they're fitted right). There's an article on fitting flip fronts in one issue of Keeping Your Mini Alive which shows these bars being fitted by Minispeed. They are well beefy and far more than you need for a road car.

You don't have to use straps or Dzus fasteners to get a good finish. Some of the best I've seen use door or bonnet catches from kit car suppliers, along with alignment cones and buffers to et a perfect and more or less seamless fit. You can't tell it's a flip front until you pull the bonnet release cable inside the car and the whole front lifts up.

Thats a thought, using bonnet struts to lift the whole front end. They would have to have a small amount of damping, but it would look good!
