need to do timing chain tensioner on red mini, got rad out, undone engine mount on nearside of car, jacked up engine a little, got socket onto it, put car into gear and chocked wheels, pulley turned and car managed to move the chocks! so how do i manage to undo the bolt without the bloody engine turning??

Right,

Tap the tab of the washers back. Then plonk the socket on the back. Put the engine in top gear, hand break hard on AND bricks under the wheel.

Then take you ratchet or breaker bark and extend it. I used a bike seat post for an extra 2 feet on my foot long ratchet handly.

Then!

(this is easier with the bonnet off) take a large hammer and :) thwak the bar to shock the bolt off. Took my two good hits to undo mine the 1st time.

Might do with a rag to protect pain around the area were the bar might hit.

edit

....why did you unto the engine moutn? I just too the bottom rad mount off then get the socket on, then again mine are stepped.

most prob didnt help that i didnt undo the lock tabs whoops :) i didnt undo the engine mount from subby, undid the two bolts that bolt the thing to the gearbox, that is between the gearbox and the mount, that the rad sits on top of, duno what its called!! only beacuse couldnt get socket on straight. i was also trying to use a torque wrench, would you recommend a breaker bar then?

Oh no, don't use a torque wrench like that. You'll break it.

I don't have a breaker bar. I just use my cheapo socket with a bar on the bottom.

I'll do a pic to show. Back in a few.

the B.A. ULTRA budget bar. Done me proud so far. Although be prepared if you break your ratchet.

Why not, span on have a life time warrant on them. They break you get a new one. My dad uses them in Libya.

Then again they are fuggin expensive. My one is from a homebase set I got a few years ago.

alex, 4th gear is probably better and have someone else in the car with their foot on the brake.

or... remove starter motor and lock flywheel with large flat bladed screwdriver between starter ring and transfer case, saves screwing (lol) around with all this in gear, hand brake on, foot one pedal poop.
