or... remove starter motor and lock flywheel with large flat bladed screwdriver between starter ring and transfer case, saves screwing (lol) around with all this in gear, hand brake on, foot one pedal poop.

i was just about to post that ive tried chocking the wheels and having someone on the brakes (faye!) but now i know how to do this! well so long as it does work!! if this fails any other ideas??

As long as you can get right onto the pully nut (might mean taking rad out on Mini) using a GOOD CORRECT fitting socket with a tommy bar, have the tommy bar against the subframe & flick the starter. Thats worked for me on every other car I've done.

Not sure but it does have to be a good fit, engine needs to be bolted back in car. Just a thought if you are in front of the car & you have it in gear with brakes on you are pulling the lever towards you?

33 is the closest mm size bearing in mind that mini is imperial not metric! drop into me after work as i have the correct size to undo the bolt.

is there a spring that goes with the tensioner to push the tensioner against the chains?
