my haynes manual seems to have gone walkabout. if i was to replace the front discs do i need to purchase anything else or can i bolt same parts back on that came off except the disc?

You'll need a big split pin for the drive shaft nut. Always change the pads with the discs and you'll need split pins for them too. Other than that you'll only need to replace anything that you find to be damaged or worn out while working. Give it all a good inspection while it's apart.

Im going to be doing this in a week or two as well. Bought the pads and discs on the Bay and they came with everything mentioned above for only £25.

ive looked there but the only thread i found doesnt have photos. and for what its worth, i wasnt askin how to do it as such, i asked if i needed any other parts for it
