Thought it was about time I started a project thread for my build. I set out to build a mk1 cooper replica, this is how I've gotten on so far.

Original shell was too far gone so I got a complete mk4 heritage shell, the shell then went to JC Bates to have some prep work done and to be sprayed old english white and a black roof.







Underside all stone chipped and sprayed







All work done on the shell, in the showroom waiting to be collected







Original subframe after being sand blasted and sprayed





Building the front subframe up, reconditioned upper arms, minispares one piece adjustable bottom arms, uprated adjustable tie rods, poly bushes, solid subframe mounts, red dot cones, modified hi-los (machined about 10mm off the top face to allow the car to run lower on the uprated cones), goodridge flexible brake hoses

Reconditioned radius arms with new backplate assemblies and flexible hoses









New rear subframe fitted to shell, poly bushes, kad rear brackets, red dot cones, modified hi-los, GAZ shocks and superfins





Front subframe in car







Then tackled the headlining and black vinyl for dash rails. Newton comercial mk4 headlining in mk1 cream crackle material, and the black vinyl is from somerford, in my view alot closer to the original and easier to work with than the newton commercial stuff.











In this pic mk1 demisters and bezels fitted



Fitting mk1 brake servo with use of modified braket to allow fitting in correct position. Originally it fowled on the braket for the washer bottle.

Unfortunaltely cant find the pictures of the engine build, but its an MED type r kit with road comp head, straight cut box, x-pin diff and straight cut drops.













Thats about as far as I've got at the moment, hope you all enjoy and like it, will keep updating as I get things done.

im leaving the hinges as they are, didnt want to start chopping a new shell

Its a gorgeous shell but i was looking more at the nuddy piccies in the first 3 pictures! i can see a breast lol

am sure its gonna look great. we did similar type of project with a H body shell, did you fit the headlining yourself???? we had 1 attempt (disaster) and then managed to find a local bloke who did it for £50 thank god.
N comercial seats etc are great though you cant tilt the seats forward without putting seats in full forward then take the headrests off for decent access, may as well be a 2 seater really. The dog takes up the full back seat and is none too happy about it either.

me and a mate managed to put the headlining in, the best tip i can give is loadds of heat it makes it so much easier. we ended up with a space heater inside the shell pointing up at the roof, worked a treat

prob good idea put that on hints and tips page.. we tried hairdyer but i guess is more an issue of patience and some degree of skill which was distinctly lacking with us, hey ho the £50 was well worth it although tracking down the headlinning stays was an isue, thank god for mini clubs we were really helped out by our local club.

newton com seats do look great, trying to convince myself to get a set red and gold brocade but its so expensive something like £350 a seat, and a set of door cards and panels are about the same, think id rather spend my money on a set of these



i have put my name down for some in fia silver, no deposit though so can always change my mind

ive got a adapter panel from m machine to weld into the lower dash rail so i can fit the mk1 switches
