RESULT!! she started up today!!

At first she didn't run at all well as the timing was quite away off, but after a quick look in the haynes we got the timing right and she fired up straight away and idled away consistently. No leaks and no misfiring so i guess everything was reassembled and connected properly.

She sounds so much better with the new exhaust, sounds nnice and throaty, and looks much better than the old peashooter.

At the moment it's running fairly well throughout the rev range, but with a small flat spot at the top end, but i guess that's because of the needle, so once the car is all finished and back on the road after the respray, i'll take it to be RR'd to get it running nice and smooth.

The tappets need adjusting also as they are rattling away a bit and may fiddle with the mixture as we stuck the colortune in earlier and it's slightly orange so try and lean it out abit, but apart from that im well chuffed.

The engine bay still looks a bit dull, but as i said hopefully the new rocker cover and coil bracket and cover will be here tomorrow, and im on the look out for a dashpot cover, and may have a go at making a simple stainless cover for the brake fluid resivoir.

Well the engine is offically finished :w00t:

rocker cover and coil cover came today and that finished it all off.

I also made up a cover out of alu for the master cylinder to cover it up as it's a state, and to top it off i polished up the dashpot on the carb just so it wasn't dull, cleaned up the rubber hoses with some vinyl bumper cleaner and that was it.

All mechanical stuff completed now, driveshafts have new gators each end and connected the speedo cable up as we forgot to put it back in when the engine went in  All 4 gears work too and the clutch is smooth now, so result! just need to bleed the brakes and fiddle with the mixture

sprayed the bonnet as it wasn't wet and windy, looks good.

will leave it a week or so then flat it and polish it up.

Great progress. Looking good.

Wouldnt leave the paint a whole weak before flatting and buffing though. It'll be really hard, making flatting hard and always (in my experience) ends in rubbing through the paint.

Give it a day or two.

Keep it up.

Well i braved the rain and fitted my new wheels while getting soaked.

actually i lie :) i did them in the garage ;D but i backed it out when it did stop raining to take some pictures. Need to do some chopping of the front valance. So tomorrow i'll be hacking away at it. Taped my arches on to get a feel of what it will be like when it's finished. Now just need the weather for spraying.

It's been a while since i've worked on the car, and this isn't really a strenuous job, but the result, i think, is great, and great service from huddersfield spares, got my wheels next day!

They are 12x6 deep dish, which i think have a different offset so you don't need spacer's, so stick out a bit further than normal 12x6.

And group 5 euro's, not sure if the euro's are wider than normal gp5's or not but when looking down from above no tread can be seen, and they're pretty much spot on.

those arches look great, they really suit the car, but they look like they may foul the front bumper, if you are fitting one?

In the pic above the arches were just taped on quickly, they actually sit a bit higher at the front now the wing has been cut for the larger wheels, so just clears the bumper
