Well said, mind you, seems the tax disk is only a visual reminder to the driver to renew, as ANR technology can tell if you are taxed, insured, licenced, and since the MOT went hightech, that as well...I'd rather there be no road tax (VED) on any vehicle. Each vehicle should have to display a badge showing it's current MOT status & another showing details of it's insurance. Then increase the fuel duty by however many p it would be, I suspect between 1-2p would do it. Then the reps that do 60k a year would pay more as they should & if you have a classic/historic that only does 500 miles then you pay very little. Also the toe-rags that don't pay any VED, Insurance or get MOT's would at least be contributing something, which 'should' fund the Police to catch them.

That's a fantastic idea and why aren't you the prime minister Alan?
Because I don't lie, cheat & believe there is one rule for me & another for the masses. Just before anyone jumps to Tony's defense this is not a pop at him in particular, but a pop at ALL politicains in general.

There are a few valid points in some of your responses however, but I think some of you may been losing sight of the actual point here that its about time the government realised people what things changed about the way we are taxed.
I am also assuming that those of you who say this has already done the rounds once before and want this actioned have signed up.
Finally, its not about keeping the old rusting Ford Granada on the road as VOSA deal with this via the MOT scheme, but its about all of those other individuals out there with classic cars who have spent a lot of time and effort restoring their pride and joy into a great looking motor and would like it classed as classic (and yes I am including those made the 80's).
Each to their own though.

What else can you do? like I said before its not like these petitions will make a difference. No matter that the people want it changed - Gordon aint going to do it. Brilliant as pheatons idea is - it wont happen. Because exactly like Taffy says - why drop one tax when you can increase two? And now with less and less people smoking they are going to need to get the revenue from somewhere - so what is the biigest group they can pick on? Motorists, because nearly everyone over the age of 17 in this country has a car. So things are never going to change - in fact it will only get worse.Blimey I wish I hadn't of bothered now as it would seem most of you are quite content to pay your TAX, are you sure you don’t all work for Tony?
Cheery sod today, arent I?
