I have a JVC headunit (rated 4x 45w RMS) with a pair of magnet 6x9's (150w RMS each)

I have now bought a 10" Free air sub on ebay, and am currently bidding on a amp.

The sub specs:

10" Component Subwoofer ( Free-Air )
400 Watts Output
4 Ohm Impedance,
Frequency Response : 20 - 3,500 Hz,
Can Be Used in a Sealed or Ported Enclosure,
Sensitivity : 92 dB,
33 oz. Strontium Magnet

And the amp, is a Longmill JL900 (cant find any specs, but has run 6x9's and a 440 sub according to ebay)

All i know is that,

2 Channel Amplifier
Usual bridging facility, with overload thermo protection, low and high level inputs, gain level control, treble and base. Visual led power and protection indicators.
High powered Amp, but not quite sure what out -put, but was running 6 x 9`s and a 440w sub.



So my question is, if i wire the amp to my Headunit, can i wire the 6x9s to the amp so i can get the fully 150w of the speakers aswell as my sub?

no, with that amp u can either run ur 6x9s or the sub. i would possibly run both but not very well.

yeah that sounds like ur best bet.

sorry to hijack the post a bit but would i notice much difference if i got rid or my 10 inch sub in the boot and got a free-air 10 for the shelf?

mines for the boot. am gunna get a boot board and mount it to that.

U can get 2x 6x9 and a 8" in shelf i believe. Weakening the shelf tho....

That sub was the first one I ever had and it's still a great sub.For £3.20,thats got to be the best buy I've seen.

your head uni isnt 4x 45 rms... the 45 watts is peak as are all the wattages given on head unit! yuo are looking at around 25 watts peak

thats a nice old skool sub too! just bridge the amp, and gradually turn it up untill the sub distords and durnt the gain on the amp down a tad!

yeah thats the plan. Just need to get me a wiring kit later in week and i can test it, aint fitting owt until i get a boot board.

...Means i'm gunna have to refit the airhorns

if you are running the 6x9's from the headunit then you need a crossover to block out frequencies less than 70hertz, you can sometimes do this from the headunit or you can buy in line filters which block out the really low frequencies.
The reason for this is with the volume cranked up you won't be able to hear the 6x9's distorting for the bass from the sub, also you will get a cleaner sound and be able to give it more volume and you're 6x9's will last a sight longer.
