Bought myself a nice low milage metro engine from ebay and the time came to make use of it so tried getting flywheel off with puller and it decided to strip the thread of one of the 3 bolts. re-tapped it tried again, same problem. Re-tapped larger, ditto. Was told to get a flywheel off that's this stuck is to chop of the starter housing and  it with a full on sledgehammer! Didn't fancy that so invested in a lovely new angle grinder to chop the old flywheel off!

Below is the result! I did manage to cut into the crank slightly on two sides but there is more than enough material to provide a good base for the flywheel to sit over. New block, here we come!

Only ever had to do it once, and cut a single slot and then stuck a cold chiesel down it to split it open....

Yes the crank is chafed as they say but as long as I torque and re-torque the flywheel several times when refitting I shouldn't have to worry about it slipping at all, I don't reckon.. :s It looks worse on the pic than it actually is. I couldn't get my angle grinder at the right angle to do the one slot so sliced it top and bottom doing my best to avoid the crank.

The dipstick won't need restraining once this block is fitted as it's fine. At the moment, the pressure that should be pushing my piston down is escaping past it and pressurizing my oil slightly

I have to agree with Minidaves zomerzet

Maybe some closer up pictures of the crank tail?

While engines are not my strongest point, I do know a little about mechanical things - and I REALLY doubt that crank is of any further use! Maybe a nice door stop...?

The crank is no longer true so there will be increased loading on the rest of the crank area, and unbalanced loading of the flywheel mating surface material, which will lead to probable increased wear and movement - and a very early failure of the crank / flywheel! :ermm:

Bin it and stick a new / recon crank in there. The engine is out and part stripped, so you might as well do a proper job NOW, rather than wait for something to fail and have to rebuild the engine anyway.
