Hot stuff
Today was independent travel from Turin to Colmar (France) - (approximately 300 miles).
We had decided to travel with the American guys, Matt and J (in the Mean green Pickup).
As this was our last day in Turin we tried to blag getting up on the fiat factory roof but they wernt budging, shame!
We set off about 11:30 am which would give us plenty of time to get to Colmar for 8pm....
We had decided not to take the reccomended rout but go through the Alps and take the St Bernard tunnel.
Matt and J:
We had great fun driving up the winding and very steep roads. At one point a football came rolling down the hill towards us???? strange.
We had almost reached the tunnel when the car started lurching so we pulled off the road and popped the bonnet to a lovely hissing sound. Both of our engines were a tad hot!!!
After waiting a while for them to cool down we opened up the radiator and the water level was below the metal wire bit! You could see the tops of the rad coils!!! So in went alot of water, the funny thing was as soon as we got the the tunnel the air temp had dropped so much that the needle stayed right at the bottom.
We paid the toll to enter Switzerland and drove through the St Bernard tunnel.
Half way along the tunnel opens up and ther is a border control and apparently we were suppost to buy a motorway sticker but we just drove straight through?? Hmmm, opps.
We drove into Switzerland and this is the view that greeted us:
We had great fun driving down the mountain, lots of tight turns with steep drops, great!
A bit further along the Swiss roads we stopped at a Hotel/Restaurant for a bite to eat.
With James and I using our extremely basic French it appeared as if they only wanted us to eat just the one meal on the menu, so thats what we had. It was rather nice. Then it was time to get back on the road.
Another great view:
We hit a bit of fog:
Due to the winding swiss roads and the overheating it was getting late and it was looking if we were going to miss the 8pm meal.
We ended up getting there at 7:58 pm!!!!!!!! Nice
We had a nice meal but drinks were not included and we rather pricy!!
We had an early night as it was up early for the long trip to Paris the next day.

The people in that awesome Pickup look pretty cool if you ask me. I have to agree with Charles, the drive and views were absolutely incredible. Who would have thought little mighty Mini's could manage so well in the mountains.
