Check that the cable is still in one piece first.

well its not my mini yet, im thinking of buying it, but dont want to if the gearbox is knakered.

anyone had this problem before

i will be converting to 1275 manual in a few weeks, but need to use the car as it is.

Well firstly no Mini has a clutch cable, they have hydraulic clutches.

The selector is connected to the gearbox on an auto by a cable. If this is broken you won't be able to chage gear and the inhibitor switch function will be broken too.

Why do so many people buy Mini autos to convert them to manuals?

well the reason im buying an auto and converting is because i live in jersey and minis are rare enough, and since the one in question is a clubman estate, one of about 7 or 8 in jersey. u have to take what u can. and ive decided to take a 1275 manual engine and get rid of the 998 auto. i prefer the performance of a manual

So buy one from the mainland, then there'll be one more Mini on Jersey.

Selector cables should be available from the usual suspects but you need to make sure that is the problem first.

right ive bought this mini now and as suspected its the selecter cable, ive searched mini spares, and mini sport and no luck finding a new cable, can anyone suggest a place

OFGS.

Auto parts are uncommon, they stock some but don't sell many. So they don't tend to list them on websites. I would think they have the cable though.

Why are so many people afraid of phoning the suppliers? I just don't get it. Not all the parts are on the websites.

If they really don't have it there is a Mini Auto specialist. I think they are called Auto Transmission Parts or something, I'd have to look it up. I have linked to them before so they should come up in a search.

Found them, JP Automatic Transmissions.

They don't list a cable for a 4 speed Mini with park but they do have early 4 speed and the very late 5 speed/park auto transmission cables in the book. They probably have what you need even if it's not in the book, give them a call.

Well order it from Auto Delta in Japan then! Might cost a bit for delivery.
