Hello everyone,

:)

I bought my Mini about a year ago, the bloke who I bought it from said it was an 1100 Deluxe. Now, I live in South Africa, so it is a Leyland Mini,
I have looked everywhere for info but left stumped over what my Mini is!
Is there a engine plate that will verify my engine size? And secondly, will a 1979 Leyland 1100 be a A Series engine?
What exactly does A Series mean?

Thanks so much, excuse the amount of questions!

Kind Regards
Conrad

Thats better, I can read that.

1) Welcome to our forums.
2) For engine size check the plate above the alternator/dynamo. There a plate on the block near that. The first two numbers should give you an idea of engine size.
3) A-series is a block type. Two version A and A+.

south African minis in the 70's were made by "leyland south Africa Ltd". this was actually an assembly line set up in south Africa but still under the main "British leyland" umbrella.

the 1100cc unit was actually the main "base unit" for these cars and was fitted to the De luxe (standard saloon) shell and the clubman shell.

yes it's an A-series engine.
