The rev counter in my mini, on higher rev tends to sway around a bit, its hard to explain

its fine up to about 3 or 4 thousand, but they the needle kinda swings around like inbetween 1000 lower and 1000 higher... hope that makes sense.

I always thought it was just a dodgy rev counter, or perhaps vibrations, but ive been in another mini now that does exactly the same thing.

its as-if it cant decide what revs your travelling at... ;)

anyway, I have a cable that goes from the negative side of the coil to the counter, and a cable that goes from the counter to earth.

id really appreciate any help anybody can offer on this subject, alternatively how other people have wired their's..

thanks in advance.

in anticipation.

Early rev counters do tend to be a bit like that. If you are talking about the three pod setup, then try to get a later type of pod. The Nippon jap manufacture pods are much better, and I don't get any of that dancing about stuff. I think they were fitted to cars post 1990.....

If it's a separate one that is fitted, then it should not be bad unless it's an old one. The newer rev counters tend to have stuff inside to stop the fluctuations.

thanks mate, it would explain it actually, the rev counter is mine is from 72, and the other car I was in that did it was 84. So your suggestion makes sense.

thanks for clearing that up.

matt
