Right ive got a 1975 998cc mini and i have to pump the brake pedal about 3 times before i can feel any pressure (friction when driving) i dont have a sevo as its a early type braking system and i have bleed the brakes with a one way valve bleed kit following the correct sequence all the shoes are aqusted correctly and when i pump the pedel the brakes work perfectly Could there be a proplem with the master cylnder?? And have i bleed the system correctly it seemed i had got all the bubbles out when i did it last time? please help its really annoynig me!! >;)

I had the same problem a while ago changed the master cylinder and everything worked fine. On another mini i changed brake pipes that looked a bit rough and this cured the problem to.

If that dosen't solve it just keep your distance and if the brakes don't work hit something inexpensive.

I had a leaking master cylinder you can sometime feel brake fluid on the pedal

Tried adjusting the drums and or replacing the shoes?

Are the little springs fitted to keep the ends on the cylinders tight up against the shoes? My first one didn't have these and my brakes were impossible to adjust and get set up proper.

get some 1 to help u bleed them again in the correct sequence ,as i dont trust those self bleed kits !!lol

if this doesnt work then bite the bullet get a new master cylinder

Jam the brake pedal down with a piece of wood or something similar and leave it overnight.

Erm what springs??? lol looks like im gonna need some of them then because mine never had any since ive bought it!!! Thanks Mattt

Im im also about to go outside and try the jam the pedal down trick!!!

Do you mean like when the pressure builds up though pumping the pedal you can feel it slowly going down (mine seams pretty firm when after ive pumped it!!) or you can actually 'feel' it on the pedal?? :w00t:

There are springs on the front drums, the springs hold the shoes to the piston to stop the shoes going walk abouts. These ARE NOT the return springs (the ones that pull the shoes back in when you take your foot off the pedal) they just clip the shoe to the piston.
