If that dosen't solve it just keep your distance and if the brakes don't work hit something inexpensive.

Jam the brake pedal down with a piece of wood or something similar and leave it overnight.
With the cap OFF the master cylinder !!!

Are the little springs fitted to keep the ends on the cylinders tight up against the shoes? My first one didn't have these and my brakes were impossible to adjust and get set up proper.

I had a leaking master cylinder you can sometime feel brake fluid on the pedal
Do you mean like when the pressure builds up though pumping the pedal you can feel it slowly going down (mine seams pretty firm when after ive pumped it!!) or you can actually 'feel' it on the pedal??

There are springs on the front drums, the springs hold the shoes to the piston to stop the shoes going walk abouts. These ARE NOT the return springs (the ones that pull the shoes back in when you take your foot off the pedal) they just clip the shoe to the piston.
