heres a little puzzler for you to solve guys,

when i tried the indicators they just stayed on (not flashing)
so i replaced the flasher unit (hazard and indicator)
now i can here the flasher unit working (clicking noise)
but the lights hardly light up.
ive but my multimeter across and there is definatly power going in.
i thought it might have been a dodgy flasher unit,
so i bought another (new) and still the same problem.

Any ideas??

have you checked all the earths?

What year is the car?

the car is a 1980 austin morris mini
and earth looks ok

If you've definitely got the right bulbs, the right flasher and the battery is charged then it must be a resistance problem in the wiring. Start looking for corrosion in the terminals around the flashers and fusebox as well as the lamp sockets, and change the fuses in case they are a bit tired and corroded. to be honest a dirty fusebox is normally the source of mysterious wiring problems in this age of wiring loom. It could be that the replacement flasher is also dodgy though, they are one of the components famous for being found non functional when new.

ok all earths sorted and fuse box cleaned and connectors replaced.

now indicators just stay on but with the same flasher unit hazards are dim.
could it be the indicator stalk?

Could be, try bypassing it (take the connector off and jumper the wires together in the plug to simulate the switch being used). That should tell you what's up. Also have a look at the hazard switch and its connector, the two systems are interconnected at the switch. Lots of indicator issues are caused by hazard switches in Minis.

indicator stalk (arm)
so if anyone else gets this problem look there aswell
