Took one of my spare 1 1/2 " SU's apart last night, to see if i could Vizard it and just have a look in general

Took the piston out etc, and removed the grub screw that i thought held the needle in, and the needle didnt pop out like i wasexpecting, am i missing something?

and also, messing about with this lovely precision bit of kit is a bit daunting, how hard are the mods described in the book? and how easy is it to mess up?

Hard? Only bit I found hard wad finding screws for the butterfly valve. In the end I just used stock screws with a couple washers as I had halfed the spindle.

Might need to gove the needle a slight yank to get it out. SHOULD NOT take alot of force.

As for the mods, half the spindle. Don't bother with all this filing C**p. Just cut half the spindle (the not tapped half) off the side width as the valve.

sounds good, the needle is wobbly in its holder bit in the piston, but seems held back still

so the only mod you would do is the halving the spindle.

you got any pics of your carb?

cheers big adam

Countersink screws, absolutely. Super glue? That's two posts in a row where someone has recommended super glue. Loctite will work also and may be easier to remove later when in some distant day you need to rebuild these again.

Yes and no.

Loctite comes in multiple grades and while the base may be similar to super glue, the amount and type of filler greatly changes its properties. Most Loctite small fastener grades are "softer" than super glue (they have lower sheer strength). The grade numbers Heinkle/Loctite uses in Europe are different than in the U.S. so it wouldn't make sense to name the grades I use. Suffice it to say that they have a grade recommended for removable fasteners smaller than 6mm (usually purple in color) and a grade for 6mm and larger (usually blue in color). There are permanent grades for use across the board, most of which are red in color. All of these allow more generous assembly time and are generally more removable than super glue.

I found loctight green to be good for holding stuff.

I used it to hold my numberplate bolts on.........I had to cut them off when I smashed the plate.
