i know i probably asked this a bit late. i think all the brown wires need to go on the engine side, there are 3 of them one ring clip the other 2 are push clips, the red/white wire is correct. are the battery and starter the right way round?
currenty the solenoid clicks, the starter (tested) is smooth and the engine turns over easily enough (when just hooked up to the battery to starter) its just when its all in one circuit it doesn't do a thing.
i've put new earths on the engine as you can see in the pic below the solenoid and i replaced the battery boot earth?

I know this may be obvious but is the battery fully charged

yep, seem'd to get run down pretty quick but that could be to using a lot of current if the wiring isn't correct?I know this may be obvious but is the battery fully charged
however i dont know if its wired up right, really doing my head in.
the battery is only about 6 months old.

Try shorting the solinoid so that you get the live from the battery going straight to the starter motor cable. This way you can test if its the battery or not by cutting out the solinoid.
