heyy, i hope this has never been posted before, i couldn't seem to find any topics on it BUT heres the deal

i am resoring a 1979 mini 1000, and when we went to fit the original doors on there was a large gap (about 3/4") in the lower rear corner of both doors. They fit perfectly everywhere else. The only adjustment we could find was on the door striker clamps thing. which didnt do too much at all. so im a little stuck now as to what to do. is there any sort of seized door adjustments i cannot find? Or should we fiddle a bit with making the mounting holes a little oval? or bend some metal, i just dont know.

as bungle says, you can buy/make shims to go between the hinge and the frame.

There is no need to oval out any hole, you just need hinge shims. Do not try to use the striker plate to adjust the vertical position of the door, if you do it will wear out the latch and hinges in no time at all. The striker should be used to adjust how tightly the door is held in to the body only. The hinge is held to the body by studs and nuts under the wheel arch, release them and you will be able to adjust the door, the shims fit between the hinge and the A post. Be careful, doors are fairly heavy things to handle. Put an axle stand under the open door to hold it up while you work.

Use u shaped shim holes then you do not have to take the door completely off! no need for an axle stand or extra person then!!

yeah, there probably isnt any reason for me to post this picture up...BUT this is what the gap looks like. im going to oval out the holes and see if it can get a better fit after the weekend. BUT thanks again for your help.

The gap looks even all the way up the B post you have to adjust the catch on the B post for that one
try that first and it will probably work OK

"U shaped Shims?" (sound of a light bulb crackling and slowly lighting!!!!!) Great scott, why didn't i think of that....it would have saved us spending the whole day fitting and removing a drivers side door D'oh!!!!

Don't touch the A post, shims and stuff for the moment, does the door stick out like that all the way up evenly? like has been said you need to set the door striker on the B post first, it's also possible the door has become twisted especially if the door has been reskinned, to put this right, a block of wood and a couple of well placed twists using the blocks to stop it turning should do the trick

heyy, the door is original. and i did adjust the door striker. its just the bottom rear corner. and when the door hinges are loose we can get the door to fit perfectly. its just once they are tight the pull out in the back. i might try some twisting of the door...or should i do the oval holes/shims?
