Hi guys, had the car up on the ramps today, and have a couple of issues.

1) My reason for getting it up on the ramps was to inspect the exhaust which was ripped off the other week by the remenants of a post in the middle of a speedbump. The back part of the exhaust sees to have been bent (the section the length of the rear subframe) since the pipe doesn't meet up with the mounting points. Could i attempt to bend this section back,or is it advisable to scrap it and get a endbit (technical,i know).

2) Whilst under the car,i noticed the rubber seal around the drivers side pot joint was all puckered, as if it had been sucked inwards. Bad?
I've recently been hearing a odd rubbing sound at low speeds that i thought was the brakes against the pads. Could the two be connected?

Standard exhaust or not? If not it probably just need re-hanging rahter than straightening. Loosen all the clamps and hangers and shake it about till it lines up.

The pot joint gaiter has probably slipped round the outer member of the joint, twisting the rubber in the process. Try to twist it back. I doubt that this is making a scraping noise.

sorry, it's an Rc 40. It's definately bent, as attempting to line up the pipe with the mount at the front of the rear subframe is impossible, because the tailpipe is fouling on the subframe- about 20 cm to the left of where it should be.

With an RC40 in particular, the rotation of the middle pipe is important. If this has rotated then it will move the tailpipe left or right when the pipe connection point and middle mounting are both lined up as they should be. It's worth a look first at least.

Cheers Dan. I checked the middle pipe hadn't rotated, but it was same as it always was. The tale pipe isn't just offset by 20 cm, it's angled differently. The bend is apparent in the crux between the first and second box. i decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new one. If i can get it straightened out the I'll sell it on. But I've learnt from past errors that if some thing's knackered, it's best just to replace rather than do a hack job.
