ive done alot of searches on tmf and found nothing, im sure theres info on here somewhere about this but i just cant find it.

i thinking of not putting a rear valance on my mini, (the old one rusted) and maybe haven no bumbers on the front and rear, but i was wondering how do you finish it off wth no bumbers or valance? im sure ive seen many minis like this but not really looked closely. so i was wondering if any of you guys have any knlodge of how to do this and make it still look good and any pics of minis which has had this done to them?

hope you understand what im getting at, and can help,

Mark

P.s this is for my blue mini city and not my van by the way.

you will need to de-seam the back and front (if its metal original) because theres a lip that sticks out that the bumper attaches too

heres minIT's car i couldnt find the original silver beauty though

edit:

cool you have a fibre glass front end like me ^_^ i think it looks cool with nothing done to the fibre glass front unless you have already attached a bumper, in which case you can unbolt it and fill the holes with some resin stuff

so its just a case of cutting the lip away which the rear valance attaches?

i have a new rear valance for it but i was thinking of again being differant and trying something new for my self. hence the reason for thinking can i get away with no rear valance fitted, Plus she has a nice white beam alxe on the back end and haven no rear valance would expose this even more. (if you get what i mean)

as i say if its going to look poo i will just put a valance on with no bumber and smooth it all in if needs be

I dont think its as easy as just cutting it away as the bit you cut off is holding up the boot pan, you would have to weld it up and make it smooth but wait for someone else to reply before chopping anything because im not quite sure to be honest

hears some pics anyway

You need to cut it 6inch at a time, and weld it up.

Theres 3 parts at the back of a mini - the rear panel, boot floor and rear valence.

All these panels have the lip and are welded together. Removing the lip without welding wouldnt last long or pass a MOT.

Cut and weld 6inch at a time, once its all done, filler and smooth over.

the alternative is to cut the seam back to about 1/2 inch and then put a piece of trim over it... That'll pass an MOT

I don't think it would look right without a rear valence. I think it would just look like your missing a panel. Your best bet is as above. Deseam the rear valence by cutting the lip off 6" at a time and welding a plate to the rear.

thanks guys, think i will tackle that and do it that way.

im guessing i would have to remove the old valance then fit the new one, then deseam it.

cheers all.

deseam it THEN fit it. surely thatd be easier?

No, to deseam it you have to have it fitted, otherwise you can't weld the strips on the back to both panels. Well, thinking about it you *could* fit the valance after, but it would be much easier not to.
