I have a feeling that mayme possibly I drivce my buggy harder than normal and well every gear I take to around 6500 rpm I know its bad and its a lot of revs but I cant seem to help it.

I have been to the docs about my heavy foot he says nothing he can do.

So my problem is I think I need to upgrade my oil i use to suit my enthusiastic driving style.

Any suggestions? Ideas.

I am using commas 20w50 and I am getting a little bit of noise from the clutch bearings now only on tickover, well to be honest I cant hear them when I am in any other gear....lol

SO please any help would be much appreciated

No, we are not having this thread again.

Search instead please, this particular subject always goes on for weeks. Along the way it generally causes upset and unrest and everybody ends up hating each other.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread for a few days and the second it gets nasty and people start attacking each other I'm locking it.

20/50 Unipart Green oil.

Many people have their own choices but I've found unipat stuff the easiest to get. Many people pref penitrat oil or duckam (that right?) oil for their mini's. I've found these hard to find localy and don't want to pay to post a large container of oil. Believe Slark used to race with the oil but oil is pretty much oil. Some of the flashier oil's for modern cars have lots of friction modifiers in and all sort which is all lovely but I still run my El Gordo on 20/50 unipart and I still drive regularly at 5000-6000rpm day to day. SO it will work fine.

If your getting noise from the clutch then thats a little weird as there isn't any oil there. The roller bearing in the end of the housing doesn't get it's own supply of oil.

Everyone has their own opinions so evenong jumps in with the oil they believe to be best. All down to personal preference really.

When I say noisy, its like a rattle and then I press the clutch and it dissappears

Sounds like the clutch release bearing is on its way out, cost a few quid to replace and has nothing to do with the oil

How easy is it to do? the clutch is not that old.

No, it's likely to be what Dan has said above.

yup more than likely the release bearing...but if you've been ragging the tits off it then it could be the idler about to shat itself, doubtful, but possible.

It wouldn't be the release bearing as that only spins when the clutch is down it could just be the layshaft
chattering i think correct me if i' wrong someone.

Dan Webster is right. Either that or the idler thrust clearance is out. Very common.

As long as its adjusted correctly....if its not and the release bearing is constantly touching the pressure plate and running at engine speeds then it will soon wear it out !

My take would be, if the noise goes away when you press the clutch, then it's more likely to be the idler bearing... especially when stationary...

If the CRB was colapsing, I'd expect a 'running' noise when the clutch is pressed, however checking the CRB is a lot easier than checking the idler
