hello, i have a problem with my gears on my 1986 mini city E, as to get into first and second i have to lift the gear stick pull it across and then either up or down to get into first or second is it supposed to be like that.
Also to get into reverse i dont have to lift the gear stick i can pull it straight back without lifting it should it be like this
or can i adjust it somehow
advice would be handy

On the bottom of the gear linkage under the car there is a plate held on by 6 ? screws. Take this off.......turn through 180° and refit and all your problems will be solved !
