Problems!! My friend popped over yesterday in her mayfair and asked me to look at her clutch & gearbox linkage as she was finding it hard to locate gears, so being the dutiful budding doofus mechanic had a quick look and decided it needed more clutch fluid and a new slave cylinder reseal kit to start with. Anyways asked her to move the motor so i could get in the garage and hey presto not a sausage!! no light on the dash nothing, a couple of tries later and the car started but when she put it in reverse engine stalled again, so i quickly checked over the earth lead on the engine, heavens opened, i got wet, car stayed in front of garage, gave her a lift home, now its my problem!! Any ideas??

Double check the battery connections - even if they seem alright there could be something breaking the connection

I know this might sound stupid but you didnt leave the head lights or anything on at all?

I've done that in the past and found that to be the cause after 45 mins or so of fault dianosics

I had the same problem; would be fine one minute then no electrics at all, I checked all earths and battery connections, even bought a new battery. It turned out in the end to be a loose connection to the starter motor, since I found that everthing's been fine.

also check the main battery lead under the car where it starts to go up into the engine bay my one looked like it had been cooked by the exhaust and had started shorting on the body quite common problem me thinks as i had a spare off a scrapped car and this was the same
