gear problem??

hey all
just on my way out from work today i put it in gear it went in ok the set off then when i presed the clutch it started moving forward the wouldnt get out off gear then tryed puttng it in gear and just wouldnt go in and all this stuff started leaking out. i was told buy a machanic at work that its the flexi pipe. im gonna order the part tomorow what will i need????

anyhelp??? thanks

Ooow. Well you've bugged the hyrdolics in one way or another. Get someone to pump the clutch pedal and look in the engine bay at the thing that looks like a bean can on the driver side of the day. Check all the likages for leaks if none are found head back into the car and check the carpet. It the carpets coved in fluid (break/clutch fluid = bad for paint and skin by the way) then the master has gone. If a leak is found in the engine bay then a pipe has split or fracture. Replace, bleed, drive on!

dave you'll need one of these if your mechanic has said its the pipe.

a better solution though is to fit a braided one that replaces the grotty metal pipe aswell, works out cheaper too :P

a machanic at work said that the bolt or sumat has come loss buy the top engine mount i think. so his gonna sort it.

just found out yesterday thats its the metal pipe that sort of bends at the top and goes thro the top engine mount to the flexi pipe. he said there is a crack on it but you carnt see a crack on. anyone else had this problem with theres???

Pipes do crack, bend+break and corrode so it is not uncommon so to speak on a car this old.

Glad its fixed.

Yes, and I gave an answer based on that along with my regular mindless drivel I write. Althought was thinking that Dave had a leak down the pedal.

Dave, you mean the copper pipe that goes from the master cylinder to the union to a flexi pipe right? Can't say I've had any problems. Could just get some new pipe bent up from the local car parts shop or take Bud's suggestion and get a braided pipe.

Or finally you can get this : THIS WOO

Which replaced the solid copper pipe and the flexi pipe. Althought think that might be short a washer as you also need to loop the return spring holder in.

just get a one piece braided one, will replace the copper + rubber hose and all that nonsense inbetween

yeh from the bit were you put the clutch fluid. i got the copper pipe made yesterday with the two bolts on for £1. so gonna get a machnic to fit it tomorow at work just hope its that. i would get the copper and rubber hose in 1 buts its waiting for it to arrive and i need my car :P
