My mini has started to make a loud squealing nose on start up, but once run for a few min this noise then disappears; the car how ever drives fine.
Any ideas as what it “could” be, as I know it’s pretty hard to diagnose engine noises over a forum.

I thought that, but wouldn’t that do it all the time though? as it’s that sort of noise.

Check the belts nice and to the correct tightness.
My El Gordo makes a squeely noise for a bit on start up. No problems so far beacuse of it.

as soon as the alternator is spinning nice and freely, and not too much is being asked of it, it wont squeel, it may well squeel on start up, as it is just charging the battery, after it has cranked your starter round
turn your main beam on, heated rear screen, fogs and spots if you ahve them, and turn your stereo up loud. now try and pull off, if it squeels, tighten your fan belt.
its no good leaving your belt if its slipping on start up, as it indicates its a tad loose, leaving it like this may let it slip slightly, continually, and will slwly melt your belt. till its thinner, and it will slip loads, or snap
