I'v done a search and read a few insurance topics on here, i'll be ringing footman james tommorow and performance direct to see what they can do for me.

I'll be 17 by the end of the month and have save £1000 for a mini. I'v been offered an amazing 1983 city 998, it has no rust and the engine is mint. Its all standard apart from a set of 12" minilights. I'v been offered the car for £1400 (which i can afford) but the insurance quotes of £1500 i'v been getting from direct line go right out of the window because they wont insure me when its been modified (a set of 12" minilights) unless im over 25.

So i'm just wondering if anyone thinks it'll be over £1500 with minilights on footman james insurance? In one of the topics i was reading i saw sombody had a modded clubman with stage 1 kit, alloys etc who had only just passed there test and only pays £475 on footman james although i'm not sure how old that guy was.

I'm happy keeping the car standard (apart from the minilights) for a while but is it realistic to even drive a car at 17 when your a guy? or should i just give up and wait until im 18 or 19? Its alrite for women, i'v put the same details in but with me as a women and the quotes are half the price!

I'v tryed many companys such as confused.com who quoted me £6500 for a mni with a stage 1 kit, alloys and arches. I'v also tryed adrian flux who are supposed to be youngdriver/modded car specialists but quoted me £2000 for a standard mini!

minilites were a std fit alloy to many models of the mini and are a common upgrade, so should make that much difference.

Its not like modern cars, replacing the 13" wheel for 19" alloys.

Try a mini specialist, they will understand about the wheels.

Try HIC - Herts Insurance...

I used them when I first started driving, motor had been modified and they were by far cheapest.

It says on the site you must be 19? Is that just for an online quote then?
