Hi,

Ive seen on some of the minis which were down at the London 2 brighton mini run, that some owners choose to make their own custom exhausts.

Also I saw some exited via the offside sill underneath the door. I think this not only looks different but is cool too and therefore to finish my car off I want to fit one.

Does anybody have any pictures of one done like this?

Does anybody know if its detremental to the engine and flow etc?

Is it a loud option and also is it legal for a road car?

Thanks guys and girls. Dougie

Ok,

It's called a megaphone exhaust. Essentially an open pipe used on high revving track cars to minimise back pressure. I think the length was critical for it to function properly hence why it stuck out the side.

Couldn't use a real one on the road.

Green mini perhaps? If it's the one I think it is the guy had to build a custom tunnel for it as well as partly custom exhaust to do it.

Not a good idea in my opinion, difficult to silence effectively and how much ground clearance have you got without sticking a pipe across the floorpan?

Well the car I've seen it on it's perfectly practical. The exhaust was set into the floor of the car retaining all the ground clearance. Might want to make it a bit tighter to the body but it would be fine.

megaphone is the exhaust system not where it exits, all to do with exhaust pulse wave tuning, it gives much better torque for race spec mini's with huge cams on them. Kinda looks like a trumpet / megaphone, doesnt hav to exit under the door.
