Popped them in turned the key and it fired up straight away and settled to a very nice even idle - if a little high at 1000rpm
Going to have a go at turning the idle speed down tomorrow and give it a wash and MOT time

Epic thread revival!
Engine collected 9th Dec 2007 so only seven years later!!!!!!!!!
After a number of personnal things with divorce/other relationships/changing jobs a number of times etc etc I'm back on it.
I have been working on a number of things on the car over the years just not updating here.
Cooling system re thought and fitted (basically for a neater solution as there where pipes all over the place!)
New seats bought, brackets designed and laser cut and old seats sold.
Various parts collected for fitting at a later date. (Alloy 4 pots, superfins etc)
A number of other small bits and pieces have been remade instead of the rush jobs I'd previously done.
Lot happier with the overall "package" etc
I have a couple of small jobs to do (make new bracket and fit x 3) Current brackets just look a bit rough as were rushed as above. Plus a bloody good wash!
I know people say dont give yourself deadlines but this will be on the road this spring! (was only ever on the road for middle six months of the year)

Good work Ian. Where's the pics then???

There you go Dave, new seats, from a lotus/vx220
Not a lot else to show really all minor bits and pieces
Like sorting out the gear linkage as due to the different front subframe the engine/gearbox is at a different height i.e. lower in the subframe, so had to make brackets to move the gearstick end of the linkage down to match.
While sorting the linkage also remade it so I can lose the steady rod.
Bought a new smaller lighter battery so made a bracket to fit it securely in the battery box
Hooked up the cold start linkage on the throttle bodies to the choke cable

Come on Ian you need to get it finished so I can have a go, or at least a ride in it !!

Bit more progress today
1 of the brackets out the three made and fitted, took a while, knew I should have fitted it before the engine was in!
Also made a start on vinyl painting a dark blue rear seat squab and back to match the black leather of the new fronts
Did a test first on the underside
Cleaned well using toothbrush in all the nooks and crannies, of the heat printed "stitching" with brake cleaner then wiped over the whole surface with the same.
Sprayed
Left to dry which is quick as its a solvent type spray
Result - dry non tacky, doesn't come off if the vinyl is manipulated (I was folding it back on itself both ways)
So i've started on the rest of the seat but ran out of paint!
Also started on disassembling a grill by drilling out all the rivets. Plan is to bare metal the back and repaint then reattach the slats after cleaning them up and polishing.

Ian I started to do that to my old grill and came to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth it.
Since then I've bought both an 11 slat and an 8 slat but don't know which to use. If you give up with it and want a good used/virtually new grill to try give me a shout.

Lot of work agreed but other plans for it also so might as well do it to this grill as its a spare one I had, so also wont stop me getting the car on the road.
Projects are never finished remember!

Rear seat base vinyl painted, got to get the other part out of the garage loft but need to move the car first
Brackets all complete just need to get a couple of 1/2 unf bolts to attach them to the subframe.
Nothing to show but started to clean up the grill typical BL thou as no primer under the back paint!!

Grill rear has now been media blasted and a couple of bolts provided by work collegue
Posted 26 February 2015 - 01:11 PM
Well after a holiday I'm back onto finishing this although progress is slow as I've cracked a rib (snowboarding holiday!) so general moving around and breathing hurts!
Bolts provided by colleague were a bit industrial looking so I've found some more pleasing button head allen key ones seeing as they will be visible below the front panel which turned up today.
Just need shortening slightly then they can be fitted.
Before I went on holiday I had started on the front grill rear panel, bulk of work done to it just finishing touches and the ready for paint

Todays progress.
Final two button head bolts as mentioned above were shortened and installed. They hold bolt a couple of brackets to the front subframe - subframe being different due to being the Force racing one, brackets bolt to the front panel where the standard teardrop mounts bolt too.
Rear seat back has been cleaned and painted to match the seat base mentioned in previous posts. Both are now installed also - I don't think they are too bad a match to the Lotus front seats with the central ribs all going the same way.
Dropped the car off the ramps which it has been sat on for a few months to get to the gear linkage.
Also changed the rear exhaust hanger rubbers they didn't look very good
So all that required for MOT is probably drain the fuel - its tuned to run on V power or similar and the fuel is likely to have gone off so I'll change it to be sure then a good wash as there is a layer of dust! then MOT!!!
