The new car just doesn't handle like the old one . I've had a new steering rack and the front ball joints adjusted as there was a bit of play in the front right one, this has helped but the car still feels 'floaty' in the handeling department.
I know the 13" wheels are renowned for tramlining but this is not what is hapening as i was used to this on the old one. could it be worn cones or shocks ?? :S
Any help woudl be great thanks and its kinda taking away from the fun of driving her

open bonnet and look into engine bay
get a mate mum, Granny etc to turn steering wheel
see if the engine turns in the engine bay

Thanks . What about cones? Its true that if you bounce the suspension and it doesn't dampen quickly its shot ?

that is to test the shocks on a standard car. not too sure if it will work on a mini as per the cone set-up. it should there is no reason why it wont bar the fact of the limited movement in the mini suspension.

Don't know the solution ere but I have just fitted new suspension donuts and they have created much the same floaty effect totally ruining my enjoyment of the mini, it was very tight before. wonderde if I should fit Hi Lo's? Or wait and see it it settles down again (currently about 6inces clear of the arches!)

HH: How long ago did you fit the donuts? You'd expect more roll with new donuts though, as they will compress more than the old ones.
RHK: I definitely check the condition of all the suspension bushes as Jimmy says. Also check that the splines on the end of the steering column aren't worn.

JB: I only replaced these yesterday as I said it is sitting quite high at the mo!

heavyhasso - the new donuts take a while(few months) to settle down.
mini rhk - is everythig std on both cars? mite jut be a difference in setup...neg camber, stiffer bushes, dampers, springs, even tyre pressure, tie bars, bearings....

Does it pull in either direction?

Some Suspension bushes are brand new, were replaced by the garage b4 i got her. I'll have a look at the tie bar's and the rest of them.
Tried greasing her nipples the other day ( can i say that on a family forum... ) anyways some worked alright but some just seemed blocked. i took out the nipple and it was fine, no blockages, guessing the joint is pretty gunged up.
Could this be something to do with the handeling :S

It skips about in both directions... but not really pulling as such, everything on both cars is the same by the way, or should be !

Donuts will settle - always way high after refitting
Shockers - even on a mini you should see their effect push down on the car to make it rock on the suspension, if the shockers are good it should settle within 1 or 2 pitches once you tkae your hands off - rig yourself a pointer if it helps to see
