Crankshaft Wedging

What are the benefits of wedging the crankshaft. Does it mean that the crank can handle more power.

Weights less.

Less weight means less power for the engine to waste throwing it about. Meaning more vroom vroom.

Well little more acceleration as you don't have to spin all that weight up.
