Chances are they have heard about the BMW k motorcycle head conversion and got confused into thing it was the Rover K series engine. Easily done by those who dont pay attention in class

the holes for the head/block dont even begin to line up.
and as for the belts.
I am sure Mini Sprocket will give a better and more informed answer than me.

This conversation you had with said person would not have existed if the said person were to actualy try and line up the Rover K head on a Rover A series block.
is that a little clearer.
Bottom line is, dont waste your efforts as it does not work. there are only three heads currently that will fit the mini and one of theose is the BMW K head

have you checked Morspeeds website about it?
But back to the Rover K Head.
What else fits?
I know the usual 5port, 7 port, 8 port and the JKD/KAD Heads, and now the BMW K Heads, but what else fits then?

Like i said, the person who said that the rover K head would fit on a mini is wrong. I also said that this said person most likely heard of the BMW conversion and got himself confused into thinking that it was actualy the Rover K head.

ok, i didnt have a conversation with anyone, this is what i have read in another thread as i did a search.
im asking if this works or not as i dont know. thank you for comment 'dont waste your efforts as it does not work' - that is all i wanted to know. if that was to be expanded on then by all means, but as your so confident then i wont question it.
so what are the other 2 heads???
