i had a 5 speed box and you are looking over the 1k mark, if you can find the gear set and i think the casing needs to be altered, as for the metro gearbox if it's a a series then it will share the oil with the engine (same as the mini thats why so many people have metro engines)

Prob be cheaper to either go for a modern engine refit or stick a diffrent final drive in the box.

Also, nice to see local person. Norwich, woo!

I have had a Minispares 5-speed syncro helical box in my road Mini for the past 6 or 7 years, not sure if they still sell it. Has a modified casting where the speedo drive goes, I think it was made by Trans-x?
Minisport also did their own version £1500-2000 at the time. Jack Knight even did a 6 speed but I think it was a racing dog box.

unsure what the final drive is in my 'box, but at 70, it sits around 3500rpm which i think is roughly the same as most other cars.

Am i right in thinking the final drive is the cheapest way of reducing the engine revs at higher speed?

5 speed boxes are available, and as above, not cheap... with the exception of one gearkit ( think is was quaife 5 speed dog box ) the case needs modification and a new speedo housing.

The alsternative is to change the final drive ratio, which is obviously a lot cheaper

Would have thought it would be easier and cheaper to fit a Metro K-Series.
