If you REALLY want "over the top" put a few of these in the engine bay afterwards:

the engine steady could certainly do with a paint!
could get a chrome casing for brake fluid reservoir, though make sure theres some sort of gap to check levels still..
shinier radiator cap,
get some shine on the alternator somehow..
cover the brake master cylinder with something shiny as well!
most things you can just make yourself, and a bit of paint with go a long way! haha

Wow... that engine steady is MASSIVE (if that's the thing on the near-side of the engine. Do they really help? And yes - chroming or painting it would really help. I'd say chrome it if you really want over the top, but that costs a lot more obviously...

a red dashpot would look pretty good! youre intentions of using a little paint looks like it'll turn out rather expensive!

I think a red dashpot, red engine steady, give the engine's front a clean and a lick of red paint to brighten it up, and just a general clean up of bolt heads, ancillaries etc would do the trick myself, not over the top but just nicely finished.

Just wondering is that engine steady fitted the right way up? I'm sure my Cooper's was the other way up before I took the engine out

Stick red bull can over the coil with supreglue.

Can lead to an overheating and breaking up coil.... not good, coils need to be as cool as possible and can cause loads running problems.

I too have seen them facing the other way up....
