Hi All,

have just put a four speaker set up out of an 04 rover 75, to a brandnew Kenwood 4 x 50 head. However no matter what I do I can not get any bass and it all sounds really really tinny.

m Any Ideas????

Cheers BM

I know its short and blunt, but spend some decent money on a pair of 6 by 9's. I recomend Alpine but there is heaps of choice.

Mate its well known, stock car speakers are not too hot, i guarantee you if you spend some decent cash on a pair you will be very impressed. The kenwood head unit will be fine.

I spent 60 quid on these

http://www.alpinecar...17c2-p-369.html

and they have sooo much more bass, clarity and better frequency range than the stock rover ones. Totally changes the enjoyment factor of music in your car.
They are only 17cm ones so 6by9's will give you more if you want it...

may be me just being a bit naive but there is like 0 base! I did not expect it to be thumping but thought a bit of base would be present. No difference when turning the bass for +8 to -8 on the dial.

when i bought the car i had an ancient radio with 2 4" panasionic speakers in pods at the front and one on the rear shelf, they sounded much the same very tinny and high pits, i removed the rear one - (am going to replace with something when i get some cash) put a new Sony cd player (does mp3's and wma's too) in and some Infinity 6x9's that cost about £70 - cant rembember the exact ones, but i made my own speaker board to go under the rear seats and im amazed at the amount of bass i get off them, people think that i have them amped, but they just run straight from the head, (i also replaced the front pod speakers but just with some cheapish kenwoods) but that has given me a really nice amount of bass, but with really quite high quality sound, if you want some more bass go for a dencent set of 6x9's or go for a sub and amp - but you will want new components other wise you will get good quaity from the new speakers but the old ones will still have the tinniness - hope that helps

i must say i disagree with the 6x9 trend of replies.

personally i will never buy 6x9's ever again. I would stick with quality 17cm door components for the front and 20cm coxals or "mini" subs in the rear.

As for bass on your stereo you should hear something. could be polarity being wrong or poor connection maybe.

Have now got a infinity 12inch sub boxed for the boot, also will check the polarity as all four speakers are tinny which may suggest that I have got them all connected up positive to negative and vice versa. Did check with a battery and identified positive when the cone was ppushed out.

LOL, its unlikely the speakers are naff in this instance, as i know most of the mid-bass' in the 75s were Alpine OEM units. They will not be badged Almpine anywhere, not even on the magnet, just trust me they are.

It sounds very much like you have a phase issue. I.e you have the positive and neg of the speakers on the wrong way accross the pair. You can chack the polarity of them real easy on an AA battery.
