Koss, is it possible to fool the tacho with a divide by say 1.5 chip for noise testing?
Good question dale. I am not sure about the rev counter on early engines with the old style coils and plug leads.
It depends what signal comes up the yellow/black wire from your ecu. I know on 2003 and later models it has the same yellow/black wire but that is a digital signal rather than analogue. R1s and certain zxrs have this setup its a bit like CAN bus.
Its a data line and that's why the tacho tango occurs indicating a fault code.
If you use an after market tacho and get the signal from the crank sensor then it would be possible to divide that or multiply.
The crank sensor is the only analogue signal (pick up coil) on the R1 Its about 5v peak to peak.
Forgot to mention a lot of after market clocks have a No of cylinders configuration. May be worth experimenting.
