but what happens when you get bored of having flames come out of youre minis arse, or get told to remove it by the law ? you end up with a nice hole in the exhaust unless it can be plugged or something

its more hassle than its worth in my opinion

If you have a catatlytic converter, it is not a good idea to allow unburnt fuel through your exhaust as it will eat the cat inside out.
My car runs rich and i get flames on full belt and overrun and very big flames when the nitrous is on.. no need for a gay spark plug either.
You can expect the law to catch up with you if you run it on the road though.

easy way to make one- doesnt cost much either:
you need:
a flasher relay - mini one is perfect.
an ignition coil - again, mini one is perfect (get an early non-ballast one)
ht lead
spark plug, anything will do
and some decent wire
and a switch.
wire it up like the distributor, but substitute the points for the flasher relay, that will do the same job. cant think of an easy way to explain - mind has gone blank.
fit the spark plug into the exhaust, theres loads of room around the rear box, and you can mount the coil on the subframe so it wont hit anything on the road. you could also fit the spark plug into the exhaust manifold. i used a large nut that the spark plug screwed into, and welded it on 2 inches from the front of the back box, although it doesnt seem to matter where.
connect the plug to the coil with the ht lead. earth the coil on the relevant terminal. connect the positive terminal to the flasher unit, then the other terminal on the flasher unit to the switch. then connect the remaining terminal on the switch to a postive supply, from the fusebox, battery etc, whatever's easiest.
as far as i can remember, thats how i wired up the coil, although someone else may know exactly.

i cant decide if this is a good idea, 3 questions before i go drilling holes:
1. is it going to affect my MOT?
2. is it really a good idea to be drilling a hole in the exhaust?
3. should i mount the plug a few inches from the exit (AFTER the back box)?
cheers all
