Can anybody give me a clue why my car makes a noise after parking it?

Its a mini one and has less than 25K on the clock.

It developes a noise from the steering column when turning in a tight spot for example when when parking it.

I would rather understand what the problem is before I let the mechanics rip the thing to bits.

cheers

Richard

Sounds like a worn rack.

rack hitting bump stops, which are probably non existent if you yank on the wheel when on full lock. had this problem with one of the work vans, it turned out when the driver reversed, lookedover his shoulder and pulled the wheel round a tad more. wrecked 3 sets of bump stops in 60,000 miles.
the other 2 vans are fine, because everyone else can park them without using full lock.
