I can see any way around this short of machining out the inner lip in a lathe.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a solution?

I bought a nice shiny set of Minifins from Minisport a while back and have today gone to put them on only for the inner lip to come afoul of the friction material on the brake shoes.
I can see any way around this short of machining out the inner lip in a lathe.

These should fit straight on, machining them out will remove all the lining rendering them useless.
Have you backed off the shoe adjuster on the backplate reducing the shoes to their smallest diameter?

Very expensive way of sorting the problem out buying new assemblies.
Remove the shoes & springs holding them on, take out the wedged adjusting blocks & apply heat to the housing the adjusting screw fits into & it should undo, once out give the screw a good clean or replace with a new one (£3) make sure you apply plenty of copper ease when re assembling to stop it happening in the future.
With the screw wound fully out you will then be able to fit the minifins on.

Yes a brake adjusting spanner will work a treat - unless the peg is buggered up now after the mole-grip experience...Im going to have to buy a special spanner

Plenty of heat & the use of mole grips should be enough to shift it, apply plenty of WD40 & leave it over night if your not having a go now then tomorrow try again with the heat.
Remember to remove the adjusting screw it needs to come towards you as they are fitted from the front!
