think you still need to go down to the post office and get a tax disc it'l say historic vehicle or something but you dont have to pay anything walk away feeling smug and waving it around in the air lol

Yeah you need to go to the local Post Office (one which actually does Tax, mine doesn't) with your MOT and Insurance Certificates and Tax it, you'll still get a license disc but it will say Historic Vehicle and you will have the grand sum of £0.00 to pay ;)

Lucky bugger!

if it hasnt already been declared as historic you will need to go to a DVLA office with all the paperwork and get the log book changed but if it has yes you go to the post office with MOT, insurance and get 12mths FREE tax or do it online like i did and get the tax disc through the post!

Can I jsut check that tax emption applies to cars build before jan 1st 1973? I've read the rule referred to as the 25 year exception, which would mean that new cars would become exempt each year, but it doesn't read like that on the DVLA website.

25yr rule was knocked out by labour. all cars before 1st of jan 1973 are tax exempt,

any car after that date WILL NEVER be exempt

yep, if you can prove it, nul road tax for two cars. they should automatically be exempt, no paperwork to fill out. just go for a tax disc in the normal way, and they also give you a receipt for £0.00, which made me chuckle

Just to add here....

The tax exemption is for all vehicles BUILT before the end of 1972.
Mines a Feb 73 registered car but was built on 28th December 1972 so JUST qualifies for exepmtion...

I might get a 1967 Hornet. So that would be tax exempt right?

Also, I see alot of mini's in Mini World that are damn old but still taxed. Just wondering why.
