Well today i was looking around the engine to find the ignition timing marks and saw a little rubber grommet so i went to remove it and the little fecker split in half. Half has fallen in and the other half is lying on the dash now.

So how do i now take it out. Does the whole engine have to come out ? Or shall i leave it in there ?

Ive attacthed a photo of the grommet before it decided to split in half and cause me a headache !

Can't see it doing any harm your starter ring gear will soon turn it to crumbs (automatic?)

Perhaps an assault with the vacuum cleaner would catch it

It'll get spat out in tiny pieces soon enough and either come out in your oil change or just sit embedded into the casing where it'll do no harm

I guess it's just fallen into the bell housing with the torque converter which is a sealed unit - can you see the teeth of the starter ring gear through the hole? You may be able to retrieve it by taking the starter out. I wouldn't worry about it but by all means seek a more expert opinion ;)

If there are no timing marks on the crank pulley they're in pretty much the same place as on a manual - via a hole on top of the 'wok'. The hole you took the grommet off is to stick a screwdriver through to turn the engine so you can line up the timing marks.

It can't get into your oil - don't worry
