Hi all,

Replacing the roof lining on the car next weekend and just wondering what other stuff I may need to complete the job. I'm picking up the material from Huddersfield Minis at the Stafford show and I also picked up a new set of window rubbers from MITP but just realised they didn't give me the chrome locking strips?
Will I need to get glue or anything else while I am at the show on Sunday??

Any help / advise greatly appreciated.

Spray glue and lots of bulldog clips, and if you can, a helper :dontgetit:

In regards to fitting my best advise is to use a good quality contact adhesive like evo stik. Use the spray stuff, its much easier to apply then and is very quick to set.

Obviously all the glass and seals have to be out .

Start from the back of the car and work your way forwards swapping sides to keep it all in line.Spray one area then whilst that area is going tacky fit an area of the lining you've previously sprayed (if that makes sense?)

Use bulldog clips (the more the better, i found 40-50 is great) to hold the glue till it goes off.

Most importantly, don't rush it!

my tip is not to cut anything off untill you have finished putting it in place, then trim it

Thanks guys. What sort of quantity of cans do I need on the evo stick stuff and do you know where the best place is to get it ( B and Q of the mini show).

Thanks again for your help.

A couple of cans should see you through fine,

As a quick word of advice id say, if it doesn't look tip top as soon as youve done it leave it a few days. The heat in the car will tighten up the material and it will look alot tighter. I found this with mine and after a week or so it looks proffesional.

Not tried it myself, but the recommendation nowadays is to use a high tack doublesided tape rather than evo/spray glue as it does not stain the lining.

Sounds a good tip GW - double sided carpet tape is probably ideal as it stick like the preverbial to a blanket and should give a more instant 'stick'.

I would still use as many buldog clips as you can get your hands on.

does it help to heat the lining with a hairdryer before you fully stick both sides, so that it stretches tight once it cools? Well thats what we did with the lotus and it seemed to work a bit!

if you are replacing the rear quater seals then chop up the old ones and that does the trick to hold it in place nice and tight till its all dry.

^^ Very good tip and with the bulldog/seals trick, that should set you in good stead. Some people in the local club can do headlinings at utterly rediculous speeds using this technique.
