As far as im aware the brake test button is not important/doesn't do much plus the previous owner said its not connected in my car.

So i'm thinking of taking that out and relocating my fog light switch there. Then i can get rid of the little switch panel where the foglight was for a cleaner look to the interior.

Good idea? I don't need the brake test switch do i?

I tryed that i swear! But the search function on this forum isn't that great and its pretty sensitive. So searching for brake test switch brings up like 30 pages of topics - most of them about braking systems. Its pretty useless really unless your just searhing for something in general, rather than something specific like this.

Just leave it there, and make it work. Then buy one of the chrome five switch panels and relocate the fog swith to the now spare hole that you've aquired.

Actually I'm considering moving to a 5-switch panel now you've got the idea into my head, would this one be suitable?

MINISPARES LINK

Bearing in mind I've got a '85 Mayfair and it's got the standard 4-switch setup at the minute.

Only trouble is if I move my fog light switch there, I'll have another switch spare (immobiliser fob). I suppose this could be concealed somewhere but it has a red flashing light for a reason.

I thought you'd need it for the MOT? Why is it not connected, has/have the tag/s broken off the fluid filler cap? That's why mine isnt working :dontgetit:

Yeah, that 5 switch panel will do the job, the chrome ones look good as well. A believe you can get walnut ones as well. They're good, but with all the switches with wires on the back it becomes a tight squeeze. Worth it because you get rid of the "after thought fog" light switch panel

This falls back to the whole "if its not there, they can't test it" surely?

Don't know really, if it's a funny tester they might have a list of what cars of a certain year must have as standard. Anyway I'll look into a chrome one, walnut wouldn't suit my car because it's all black leatherette effect stuff inside. Chrome would though :dontgetit: see if I can find one somewhere.

Or the way I like to look at it, why did Austin/rover etc, bother putting it there if it didn’t need to be there and save the time and more importantly money on fitting it to every mini.

It IS NEEDED as it tells you are low on brake fluid, which is normal done on newer car via a little light on built into the clocks/dials, so if you wish to remove it, you need to replace it with an equivalent.

And just because one mot tester passes it for not working/missing doesn’t mean every one will.

And for anyone wondering the 4 switch and 5 switch plates are the same size and are a direct replacement size wise.
