well i dont know for certain, but thats where the choke assembly would go usually so i have to assume its an electronic chock, problem with that is, if you dont have an electronic ignition it wont work on your mini....

Looks like it may have been an Hif electronic carb:

The choke will have had a stepper motor controlling it but it looks like it has been removed. I don't see any reason why you can't use it with a cable choke with a suitable attachment.

The bit with the electrical connections is a fuel cut off valve, the electronic control unit will have operated it when the car was on over run to save fuel. You can just ignore it or get inventive to squeeze out a little bit more fuel economy.

Don't you mean an automatic choke perhaps?

I believe that the Austin Maestro (for example) had an auto choke and a HIF44 carb?

Essentially the Hif E is an auto choke, I suppose the electronic tag made it sound more grand in an attempt not to make the Maestro look so poor compared to fuel injected rivals. I suppose they were justified as it also did the overrun fuel cut off and is more sophisticated than other auto chokes.

I have unscrew the electronic "thing" and take this picture...

The thing cutoff the pass from hole Nº1 to hole Nº2 which go to the the top pipe (thats the overflow I think)

I can see the needle inside hole Nº1

Please sorry for the bad english, it is not my first language, Im chilean
